For those who have read epistolary novels, we can all agree that there is always something pleasantly voyeuristic about reading them. Well if you are not a fan of epistolary books, then I assure you that when you read The Perks of Being a Wallflower pdf, you will fall in love with epistolary novels. The Perks of Being a Wallflower PDF is a novel by the American writer Stephen Chbosky. The story is about a teenage boy named Charlie who has just joined high school in a Pittsburgh suburb. The book follows Charlie as he navigates the world of adolescence and adulthood.
Overview of The Perks of Being a Wallflower PDF
Charlie who is the narrator of the story has just entered his first year in high school. He is a fifteen-year-old boy who is entirely withdrawn. He is also a brilliant boy who always pays close attention to everything that is going on around him. The entire book is therefore written by him as a series of letter to a friend.
The story opens up when Charlie is grappling with two traumatic events in his life. His only friend from middle school has just committed suicide last spring. He also lost his beloved aunt when he was just seven, on his birthday. Just like every other first-year student, Charlie is nervous about getting in high school. However, once he gets in college, he is soon accepted by his English teacher who has recognized his talent for literature.
Charlie begins to come out of his shell as time goes by while he is in school. However, Charlie’s family life continues to get more and more complicated. Charlie struggles to cope with the depression that is caused by the memory of his aunt.
As the school year nears coming to an end, Charlie gets more anxious as he fears that all his senior friends are going to be away from him. Charlie then falls in love with a girl named Sam, and he starts having sex with Sam. However, Charlie gets uncomfortable with having sex as this dredges up the repressed memory of how he used to get molested by his aunt Helen when he was a child.
As the book comes to an end, Charlie writes an appendix which is the final letter to his “friend.” Charlie says that he had suppressed the memory of his molestation by his Aunt Helen when he was a child. Charlie then says that he is ready to forgive his Aunt Helen so that he can start living his life entirely. The book is divided into four parts each with several unnamed chapters.
