Overview of The Kite Runner PDF

Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner PDF begins in Afghanistan. It is during a period of a relatively liberal monarchy of the 1970s. When the story begins, the main protagonist of the story, Amir, is almost approaching manhood. He has a servant called Hassan, who is also a friend. Hassan is Amir’s peer and comes from a group called Shia Hazaras that is socially inferior. It sets the stage for the tension that is the central theme of the story.

Amir, on the other hand, comes from a superior social group known as the Pashtun. Both Amir’s family and Hassan’s family live in a well-off neighbourhood where the Hazaras are the servants to the Pashtuns.

Amir’s father is nicknamed “Baba” by those who love him because he is a nobleman. He treats Hassan as his second son. It leaves Amir torn between feelings of hatred and awe for his father. This jealousy puts Amir’s friendship with Hassan on edge. The factor that holds their “friendship” together is Hassan’s righteousness.

One winter day, Amir’s loathsomeness reaches its peak. He inclines to be of help to Hassan in his darkest time. This selfish act results at the end of the “happy family.” A seed of self-hatred grows into Amir’s heart. It creates a further rift between Amir and his father.

A time comes when chaos engulfs Afghanistan. Amir and his father leave Afghanistan to escape from the Soviets and look for asylum in America. While in America, Baba’s fortunes changes. He has to work in a gas station as Amir becomes a respected writer. On the other side of things, back at home in Afghanistan, Hassan dies. Amir returns to Afghanistan from his life of comfort in North Carolina to rescue Hassan’s orphaned boy.

Every time I think about this line, my heart gets crushed over and over again.

As the story progresses, things take nail-biting turns and twists. Amir brings Hassan’s boy to America. However, he watches silently as the boy ends up being silent and suicidal. It is because the boy misses his old life, a life that Amir is unable to give him.

Hosseini brings his novel to an end by using a message that offers a small sense of hope. That’s not all, at the end of the novel, you will agree that this novel is a vivid book that leaves the rest of the same genre in pale comparison. The book has a total of 21 unnamed chapters.
